Sunflower to Roses – Post-ride Celebration

The Sunflowers to Roses organization was created by a group of professional peers and friends who wanted to honor the memory of Chris Anthony and Jack Lockton – both lost their battles to cancer. Sunflowers to Roses raises money and awareness to fight cancer and promotes cycling as a safe recreational family activity.  All funds raised from the 15th Annual Bike Tour will go to Cancer Action.

Both Sunflowers to Roses and Cancer Action offer education, empowerment, hope and comfort to those touched by cancer in our Kansas City community. All of Cancer Action programs and services are provided free of charge. Sunflowers to Roses has provided a movement room and helps keep these programs free to all who need them. Come and see the Sunflowers to Roses Movement Room at Cancer Action’s Johnson County Headquarters (10520 Barkley, Ste. 100; Overland Park, KS 66212). Sunflowers to Roses committed to a grant of $30,000 to make this room a reality. Many wellness programs take place in this facility to help those with cancer. A variety of classes and programs including movement classes, art, journaling, comfort massage and other complementary approaches to care are offered to help reduce stress and aid in dealing with the physical and emotional impact of cancer, cancer treatment and recovery.

Serve KC Volunteers  have been asked to help serve food for the post-ride celebration. The food will be served under large tents, which is also where the tables and chairs will be.  Volunteers will be protected from the sun and rain (mostly) but if it’s hot, it’s hot.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to eat during their shift, however at no time can the serving line be unattended (group will eat in shifts.) Bottle water will also be provided.

Age: Children 12+ are welcome to assist at this event with a parent or guardian.

Attire:  Casual and comfortable shoes for walking. We will be outside so dress for the weather, bring a light jacket, sweatshirt or rain gear if necessary along with sunscreen. The post ride party will go on rain or shine!

Parking: Erik’s Bike Shop is located in a strip center so there is plenty of parking. Please leave all valuables and personal belongings locked in the trunk of your car, there is nowhere to leave them during the event.

Any questions, please feel free to contact me directly 913-744-5266 or dorris.kissee@gmail.com

Waitlist: If an event is full volunteers can join the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you are automatically added to the attending list in the order you joined the waitlist. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you make other plans so the next available person can join in the event of a last minute cancellation.
