Nonprofit Spotlight: Micah Ministries

Since 2012, Serve KC has been volunteering at Micah Ministry on 6th & Gladstone in downtown Kansas City.  On the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, Serve KC helps serve meals, clothing, and other essential items to those in need.  You’ll see many of our regulars attending more than just once a month.  Micah is one of the largest local outreach missions, but it’s unique in the way that they welcome their guests.

It’s a humbling hour and a half where volunteers serve restaurant-style instead of asking guests to stand in lines. While the guest eats a home-cooked meal, another volunteer takes their order from the clothing pantry and brings items back to their table.

In addition to serving men and women, they also have a children’s toy and clothing pantry.  For the holidays, they ask volunteers to sign up to adopt a child as their Special Santa.   Earlier this month, Serve KC once again assisted Micah with this special event.  We hope the kids are enjoying their new gifts!

If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer at Micah yet please give it a try.  You’ll find it on our calendar on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month.
